Welcome to UK Hotels

This website has been created to provide information and resources relating to obtaining hotel accommodation and complementary services in the UK. By selecting for example the hyperlink above entitled UK Map, you can search a number of UK cities for hotel accommodation. The UK hotel online booking and complementary services sector is very competitive with a number of well known online operators, by comparing prices for your selected hotel, you can be reasonable sure that you have achieved value for money.

The UK offers a wide variety of hotels rated on a scale of stars, from 5-star luxury (and beyond!) to 1-star basic. There is also a vast number of privately-run bed and breakfast establishments (abbreviated as "B&B"), offering rooms with usually a fried 'full English breakfast'. A revised star rating scheme for serviced accommodation across England, Scotland and Wales is to be introduced next year (2006). The common set of standards for grading accommodation has been agreed by respective tourist boards and motoring organisations the AA (Automobile Association) and RAC (Royal Automobile Club). The new grading scheme is to replace schemes run by each individual body which have long been criticised as being confusing for users. The common standards have been jointly created by all participating organisations. Following annual assessments starting in January, 2006, hotels and guest accommodation will be represented by between one and five stars, with higher rating awarded for improved quality.

ACCOMMODATION RATINGS

Star ratings symbolise the level of service, range of facilities and quality of guest care that guests can expect. Hotels are required to meet progressively higher standards as they move up the scale from one to five Stars. The ratings are:

  • One star: practical accommodation with a limited range of facilities and services, but a high standard of cleanliness throughout. Restaurant/eating area and 75 per cent of bedrooms
will have en-suite or private facilities

  • Two stars: better equipped bedrooms, all with en-suite or private bathroom and a colour TV. A lift/elevator is normally available.

  • Three stars: higher standard of services and facilities including larger public areas and bedrooms, a receptionist, room service and laundry is available

  • Four stars: accommodation offering superior comfort and quality; all bedrooms with en-suite bath, fitted overhead shower and WC. Spacious and well appointed public areas. More emphasis on food and drink. Room service of all meals and 24 hour drinks, refreshments and snacks. Dry cleaning service available. Excellent customer service

  • Five stars: a spacious, luxurious establishment offering you the highest international quality of accommodation, facilities, services and cuisine. There will be a range of extra facilities. You will feel very well cared for by professional, attentive staff providing flawless guest services.
